I took a color personality test a few years back and discovered that I'm mostly blue, with equal levels of white, yellow, and red. After reading the qualities of a blue personality type, I've actually understood myself better. Some of the things I do and ways I feel made more sense to me after being laid out in words. One part I liked was, "Blues live through their senses... They love with passion." This helps me understand why every fall I get this overwhelming feeling inside, an excitement, an urge, that feels like it's just going to burst out of me. Cheesy? Maybe. But it's true.
I love everything about this time of year. I love the sights, specifically the maples, oaks, and aspens as they change color. I love the decorations in neighbor's windows and on doorsteps.
When the leaves first start changing high on the mountain and we get our first few cooler days, I get the same feeling of anticipation each year. One of my favorite words this time of year is "crisp," to describe the fall air, because some how it embodies what I'm feeling; That cool chill in the air after a hot summer along with an eagerness for the holidays. Somehow the crisp air even has a distinct smell that just screams "autumn." When I feel the anticipation starting I picture hoodies, jeans, and mocassins....
I picture BYU football. I picture dressing up for Halloween. Walking through the neighborhood in the changing and falling leaves...
Hay rides, pumpkin pie, parties, and warm soup...
And most importantly I picture family and togetherness.
Every year I make Jeff take me up the canyon to see the changing leaves. Every year I feel like I need to take pictures of everything like it's the last time the leaves will change, as if they won't be there next year, even though I know they will. Maybe it's because I know it only lasts a few short weeks...
This year I took Shad up Hobble Creek Canyon for a few pictures. He's so wiggly it was hard to get unblurred shots, but I love them still.
We also drove up part of the Nebo Loop last Sunday in between Conference sessions, which was gorgeous.
I wish we could've driven the whole byway. Hopefully we'll get another chance...
Today I woke up to a thermostat that said 63 degrees. A few hours later it had dropped to 61! The thermostat is upstairs which means it's probably even colder downstairs. I'm putting on sweats, a hoodie, and hopefully not going anywhere. Fall is definitely here! Winter, please give us a chance to enjoy Fall and stay away for a little while!
