I have been wanting to go camping all summer, but we just hadn't made it happen... till last Friday night; which actually turned out to be one of the last weekends of the season, go figure. One of the only campgrounds still open (partly due to the cold weather, partly due to the recent government shutdown) was Jolley's Ranch, which is just up Hobble Creek Canyon here in Springville. We originally wanted to go somewhere farther away but this turned out to be great for this time of year as we may not have survived a colder night at higher elevation! It was pretty chilly! Shad, Jeff, and I shared our sleeping bags (zipped together) and still slept with multiple layers. Apparently we need better sleeping bags if we're going to do much more of this cold weather camping! I was actually excited to go in the fall because of the autumn leaves, but most of them had fallen already, even at this elevation. Luckily though they had fallen recently enough that they still looked beautiful all over the ground!
Just after we arrived:
The 3 of us got there about an hour before Cody and Jess did so we got our tent set up and got everything going.
Bundled up!
Eating grapes:
We had a handful of glow sticks, some I had on hand from the summer, some my mom sent Shad for Halloween. They saved us when it started getting dark and colder and dinner wasn't quite ready... Shad and Adalee had a lot of fun with them!
Shad fell asleep snuggled with me by the campfire. Love that!
Staying warm by the fire in the morning:

Adalee:

Jeff and Cody making breakfast:
We had eggs, hash browns, peach cobbler, and hot chocolate. It was awesome!
We were going to have the dutch oven cobbler after dinner the night before, but we'd decided to just have smores and save the cobbler for breakfast instead of making pancakes... Cody and Jeff couldn't get enough of the amazing smelling steam that was released every time they lifted the lid:
Hat hair...
Once the sun got to us it warmed up enough to start taking a few layers off. These two had fun wandering in the leaves while we took down camp:
After we all went home and cleaned up Cody and Jess came over to chill the rest of the day. We watched a few movies and made homemade ice cream (since I'd purchased the ingredients to make it in a baggies to go with the cobbler after dinner, but no one wanted ice cream for breakfast...) It turned out really good and we discovered the old hand-me-down ice cream maker we have actually works!
