Shad's New "Big Boy" Bed

Ever since we went to Mexico in May Shad has had a really hard time sleeping in his crib.  He was able to climb out of the crib he slept in at Jeff's parents' house, which caused him to discover the freedom of not sleeping in a cage, which he loved.  All through the rest of May and June he requested (and we fought) sleeping in the recliner in his room instead of his crib, until we finally decided to just put his mattress on the floor...

Last week we finally got around to getting him a toddler bed (since our crib doesn't convert.)  I found a used one for $30 and drove to American Fork to get it.  He was really excited about it at first, but then I made the huge mistake of taking away his bink for good that same day at naptime.  I let him help me cut the tip off, so when he sucked on it he could tell it was "broken" and then he helped me throw it away.

I don't think making both of these transitions at the same time was the best choice for him.  I don't know if he associated no more bink with his new bed or what, but he refused to sleep in it.  He still wanted to sleep in the recliner, or anywhere but in his new bed.

Post-note:  Even months later, he still is having a hard time with bedtime.  He will fall asleep if we are rocking him in the recliner or laying on the ground next to his bed, but he won't go to bed in his room/ on his bed by himself.  He will stay awake and fight it and cry for an hour or longer if we let him, even when he's exhausted.  It's been a really rough past few months for bedtime.  Not to mention he's been growing out of naps at the same time, which is no fun for ANYONE...

Let's hope all of this improves before baby brother comes next year!
