Shad had his first experience with Pink Eye last week. Monday morning (the 10th) he woke up with a little goop in his left eye, and by the end of the day it was getting all pink around it:
We checked on him a few hours after he'd gone to bed, to find that his whole cheek was pink! It was a little alarming, but I felt okay about it since he didn't have a fever and was sleeping so soundly...
The next morning his eye was still pink, but not nearly as bad as during the night. His right eye was starting to get goopy too, so I made him an appointment with his pediatrician and got him right in. She said that she's pretty sure he had pink eye/ an eye infection, and after seeing the pictures from the day and night before and checking a few things, she was pretty sure he also had a sinus infection and the very beginning of an ear infection. She said if she would have seen him last night when his whole cheek was all pink, she would've been a lot more alarmed. She showed me pictures of what I think she called periocular cellulitis, (which has to be treated in the hospital with an IV,) but luckily since he was slightly better this morning and not worse, so she wasn't worried and didn't admit him. She gave him 2 prescriptions, one called Moxeza, which was in eye drop form for his pink eye, and the other was Augmentin (Amoxicillan and Clavulanate) which is a stronger medication than just Amoxicillan to treat the sinus infection and help with the eyes. By that evening his eyes were already looking a lot better, though still a little pink and goopy:
By Friday he was completely back to his normal self!
I know there are many holistic methods for improving health and treating some sicknesses, but for an infection like this I just have to say thank goodness for my mother and her knowledge, available doctors, and modern medicine!
