Potty Training

Maybe some people will think these pictures are not for the public eye, but this is our family journal and he looks so dang cute in his big boy underwear!  Plus, who still reads this blog anyway?  Besides my Mom, Nikki, and Aunt Diane... ;)

We started potty training last month.  I think he was ready before I was... He has been using the toilet for #2 for months now (he did that all on his own) so it has been easy to only change wet diapers.  And being pregnant, I just haven't wanted to start.  But he started to notice and announce when he'd need to pee, so we decided to jump right in before my belly gets much bigger and it just gets harder.  Plus it'll be awesome to only have one kid in diapers at a time...

We tried a few tricks, like putting a few cheerios in the toilet for him to aim at, treats after going, etc which all helped, but what really did the trick for us was getting out this kiddie toilet for Mickey to sit on while Shad used the big toilet...    

Wanting to keep wearing his "uh-wear" but he is still sleeping in diapers so this was the result...

And once the treats started losing effectiveness, we started doing a sticker chart, which he loved!  (We started it on a Wednesday, that's why Mon and Tues are blank...)

I have been especially grateful to have a little boy right now, who gets excited about peeing on rocks and snow and can do it anywhere!  Not looking forward to the possibility of girls someday... ;)

Post-update 2/6/14:  Shad is doing excellent now!  He hardly ever has an accident.  For a while there in Dec and Jan he'd make it to the toilet, but he'd still have wet spots in his underwear.  He very rarely has wet spots, and it telling us when he needs to go.  He wants to do it all himself, and makes us go out before he will go.  He can get his own pants down, though he often wants us to help still.  He just can't quite get them up yet.  He can also hold it much longer now, 2-5 hours, depending on how much he has drank.  And if he tells us he needs to go in the car, he can hold it until we are able to stop somewhere.  It's awesome!
