House Part Two: Painting, Carpet, & Moving!

Well, getting this house livable has been quite the process!  Everyday for a week and a half we went down to the house straight after work and painted until we couldn't paint anymore... went home, went to bed, went to work, and did it all over again.  We were exhausted!
And we still haven't had a break.  As soon as the carpet was in we began moving all our stuff in so we wouldn't have to pay rent anymore.

But we did have a lot of help!  Various members of Jeff's family spent a lot of time helping us paint and clean.  Momma C steamed our master bathroom and most of our kitchen herself!  We also had some friends come: Joe and Cassidy, Cody and Jessica, and Brian helped with the painting, Dylan re-keyed all our locks, and Spencer laid our carpet.  We're so lucky to have good friends and family close to help so much!  And I can't believe I don't have pictures of all our help!  It's so unlike me!

Here's a somewhat blurry (but I don't care right now) picture of what our carpet actually looks like:
It's really hard to tell in a picture, but basically it's a short shag style, called "frieze," and ours is a combination of 4 different colors: dark brown, medium brown, and tan, each of which are twisted with a cream strand.  We really like it!  And love how well it'll hide dirt... :)

And here it all looks like a solid dark color... hmm.  I guess you'll all just have to come over and see it for yourself!

Here's one set of before and after pictures taken from about the same place so you can see the difference:
But even these pictures aren't an accurate representation, because the after wall color looks yellower than the before, and it's actually just a lighter version of it and not that yellow...

Oh well.  We have a bunch of pictures that were taken when we first walked through the house with our realtor, and before we started anything.  So once we have everything situated and in place, I'll intentionally take some after pictures in the same areas, so you can really see what we've done to it!

A week ago today was moving day.  Jeff borrowed the box truck from his work and Jeff's dad, brothers, Marnae, and Ali came over and helped us move!  Our apartment wasn't fully packed cause well, our already packed boxes were filling up all our empty space, and we've been busy at the new house.  So Marnae and Ali saved me by helping to get everything else in boxes and ready to go.  It was getting late into the evening before we finally got the last load in, and then we still had to go to Walmart and get a shower curtain and rod so we could shower in our new house!

A week later our clothes and kitchen are mostly put away.  But this family room still looks like this...
Wish us luck...

it always takes forever to find "the place" for everything. Good luck! I hate moving. But a house of your own is soooo exciting!!! I can't wait until we finally get our first one. You are doing a fabulous job with the painting and new carpet. I can't wait to see more!

My heart hurt when I saw your nasty carpet. ewe, that is the worst. And they really stuck it to you taking all the bulbs.....yeah....

but really, the key in the dead bolt? that seems like more work than it was probably worth.
