Thanks to my mother-in-law making pumpkin stew for her kids, Rick decided he wanted to make it this weekend. So he and Jeff got busy! This is the sight I walked in on Sunday afternoon:

I'm definitely okay with this!
For those of you who don't know what pumpkin stew is:
It's browned pot roast, onions, carrots, garlic, canned tomatoes, and a bunch of other spices, simmered for 2 hours:

And put INSIDE AN ACTUAL PUMPKIN!

Seriously, you put it inside the pumpkin, oil the outside to keep it from burning, and stick it right in the oven for another 2 hours!

This 4 hour process was unknown to Rick when he endeavored to make the pumpkin stew, but I'm glad, cause he might not have wanted to if he'd known!
When it's done, you pull it out of the oven and scoop it into bowls...

...And as you scoop the stew into your bowls, you scrape a bunch of pumpkin into your bowl as well, which is seasoned and mixed in with the stew, and pretty GOOD! I didn't get any pictures of this, but it tasted a lot like squash or something... To which you might be thinking, "Duh, pumpkins are part of the squash family..." But the only foods with pumpkin I've ever had are pumpkin pie, bread, cookies, etc... so it was different than I imagined, but I liked it!
Thanks Rick for the idea and buying all the goods and feeding us as well!
Another recent endeavor was to make multi-grain bread again.
Again you might ask? Yes, because the first time I made it was last January it looked like this:

Which is why you've never heard about it. Lumpy, hard, and definitely not pretty. It tasted alright in the middle though...
So this time, Jeff helped me actually shape the dough... ha ha. You have to shape it? (Yes, I didn't know you had to shape the dough... is it sad that my husband knew this better than me?)
This time though it cooked a little too long and got a little darker and harder on the crust than we wanted, but it turned out much prettier!

And it still tastes good!

Maybe next time I can get it golden brown AND shaped right!

Yum! I've had a different version of that pumpkin stew and it is definitely GOOD! Kudos to you and the bread! I've only tried it once... and it didn't turn out either. Your bread looks delicious! I think it needs a little jam and milk. :)
